5 Guidelines For Selecting Pneumatic Cylinders
Pneumatic cylinders are the most used solution to generate
strength and movement in OEM applications. The reason is that the design is
simple, easy to install, economical and of excellent performance. They are
designed in a variety of sizes, styles and configurations. OEMs must carefully
choose pneumatic cylinders to better support their applications. The easiest
way to achieve this is to consider some guidelines.
Pneumatic cylinder
selection instructions
The points below will help the OEM understand the aspects to
consider when choosing a pneumatic cylinder. In this post, we will see rod
style cylinders.
Cylinder layout:-
This cylinders can be designed in two ways: single or double
acting. Single acting cylinders supply compressed air to only one side of the
piston, creating strength and movement in only one direction. Double acting
cylinders supply compressed air to create enough force not only to expand the
stroke, but also to deflate it. Single acting cylinders have limited expansion
because they have compression springs in their design. The stroke length of
double acting cylinders is not limited, but constant use over a period of time
can cause the rod to bend or double.
Type of cylinder:-
Two main types of pneumatic cylinders are compact and
guided. Small cylinders are designed for light work with less space and smaller
race requirements. Guide cylinders provide a precision motion
solution and are used for heavy duty applications that require guides or large
displacement loads.
Output power:-
The amount of force generated by the cylinder is a guide for
choosing a pneumatic cylinder. This can be configured by checking the hole size
and cylinder air pressure. The general rule used here is that the force
generated by the cylinder must be twice the load.
Cylinder speed:-
It is important to know the running speed of the cylinder.
Consideration should also be given to factors that affect speed, such as port
size, inlet and exhaust flow through control valves, hose size or tube. Also
observe the cylinder with flow control in the cylinder port.
Cylinder air
consumption:-
The air consumption of the pneumatic cylinder is
caused by two factors. The first is the amount of air that the piston displaces
during operation. The second is the amount of contaminated air that passes
through the valve, the port, the tube and the cavity of the final cover. The
customer must ensure that the cylinder can supply air even in the worst case.
If the pneumatic cylinder can meet all these criteria, you can check if the
cylinder works well in the OEM application.
